and being her birthday i thought i would make her a lamp, now the problem is that she has said "thats not a good purple" about some purple things , now me being a man purple is purple but it would seam that girls have other idea's,
so behold the PLARPLE LAMP.
now plarple because it is completely variable (well 512 steps) of purple (blue through to red)
the base was a old blender of mine that burnt out :( but its body was so nice i had to reuse it in some way, the lamp glass was some junk that i found in the flat when i moved in (again too nice to throw out) the knob was a standard 2" one from maplins and a rotary encoder taken from a broken stereo (again too good to throw out)
doing the mixing is a pic 16f628 and a couple of NPN transistors as buffers driving 5xred 5xblue LED's, the pic was bit of over kill but it was all i had in the bits box at the time the only other choice was a 16f877, i know this could have been done with a pot and some resisters but again i know code and had little time to finish it (the hot glue had just set by the time i handed it over to her.
the soundtrack is guff, but alas i have taken to listing to a strange german radio station when hacking

Nice project but the Avril Lavigne was interfering with my Lamb of God :(...two smokes, lets go :P( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y2BVbpGaISkif you don't get the reference )
ReplyDeleteThat old blender sure did make a nice base, though I think it would look a little less...penis-ey with a cone style diffuser or something.
Also, couldn't help but notice the cut up card on your desk, is that a PS2 Cogswap?
ReplyDeletei never thought of its that way but it does look like a large purple cock :-)
ReplyDeletecut up card was a Scottish rail ticket, as with most stuff that i have made it is what was around at the time.
